Hybrid Dentures

Do you hate how your dentures slip around in your mouth, making it difficult to speak and chew? If so, you’re not alone. Fortunately, hybrid dentures offer a sturdier option. Since hybrid dentures are secured to sturdy dental implants, they won’t move around in your mouth like traditional dentures. The best part is, you can return to eating all the foods you enjoy most. If you’re sick of your dentures sliding around in your mouth, call one of our Bay Area OSM offices today. You can also schedule your appointment online.

How are hybrid dentures different from traditional dentures?

Traditional dentures are removable and usually stick to your gums using an adhesive. This can cause problems when eating and drinking your favorite foods and beverages, and while speaking. The adhesives often allow your dentures to slip around your mouth, making it hard to chew and you might notice yourself slurring your words.

Hybrid dentures are a sturdier option because they attach securely to dental implants. Since the implants act as artificial tooth roots, your hybrid dentures won’t move around in your mouth. With hybrid dentures, you can enjoy your favorite foods and don’t have to worry about them falling out. You don’t have to take them out at night, and since your implants stimulate your jawbone, you won’t experience bone loss like traditional denture wearers.

What is the process to have hybrid dentures fitted?

The oral surgeons at Bay Area OSM will first check to see the strength of the jaw bone and locate the ideal areas to support the posts. The surgeons will then attach the titanium posts to the jaw bone and allow time for them to fuse together. This process is called osseointegration. Your regular surgeon will work along with a dental lab to have your dentures made. They will take molds of your existing teeth so that they can make the dentures fit and look like your natural teeth. The surgeon will then attach them to a titanium or gold bar to the posts that will provide a base for the acrylic teeth.

How can i take care of my Hybrid Dentures?

One of the best parts about opting for hybrid dentures is that you care for them just like you would your natural teeth. Brush twice a day, but just make sure you are using a non-abrasive toothpaste. Make sure you are brushing the acrylic gum portion of your hybrid dentures, too.

Compared to traditional dentures, hybrid dentures are much easier to care for. With traditional dentures, they need to be taken out at night and soaked in special solutions. Hybrid dentures stay permanently in your mouth.

How long do hybrid dentures last?

Unlike traditional dentures, with proper care and regular visits to your surgeon, your hybrid dentures can last indefinitely. Traditional dentures need to be replaced every five to eight years.

Is Hybrid Denture Surgery painful?

You may be surprised at how little pain you will experience when you have hybrid dentures fitted. The surgeons at Bay Area OSM have years of experience with the different sedation options and pain management. You will have an opportunity to discuss your concerns with them before the surgery and they will help you choose the best medication so that you can feel as calm and comfortable as possible. You will also receive medication after the surgery to help you through those initial sensitive days.

What is non-abrasive toothpaste?

Toothpaste has various abrasive elements inside which aid the removal of plaque. Toothpaste varies in the amount of these abrasive elements that they contain. You can know the abrasion level of a toothpaste by looking for the RDA value. Low abrasion values are between 0 and 70. The highest recommended safe limit of a toothpaste is 250. A toothpaste at this level would be considered as extremely abrasive.
